Pattern Review: Kwik Sew 3844 I had a remnant from my recent make  and decided to go with a bit of instant gratification. The pattern is Kwik Sew 3844 . For anyone that hasn't seen my previous versions of this pattern , I cut out size medium and made no changes. This ITY knit, picked up from a previous work trip to Boston, is a really stable knit which made this a delight to sew.  I cut out the top one evening and then sewed it up one morning whilst watching the men's wheelchair Wimbledon finals.  I am not  fan of Kwik Sew patterns in general. I don't have anything against them, I am just not drawn to the designs. That said, this is potentially my most sewn TNT pattern ever!  Seeing as I have everything possible about this pattern, this is a short and sweet blog post. You can see my pattern review here .  Next up is another TNT pattern. One that comes in second place in the TNT most sewn! Happy Sewing

Pattern Review: Kwik Sew 3844 I mentioned in my last post that I have had some bad luck with my recent sewing projects. So what better way to solve my blues than to whip up a (fourth!!!) version of  Kwik Sew 3844 . To be honest I was pretty horrified with myself when I realised I had made so many versions but none of them were a simple black tank. I think most people would say that they are a wardrobe staple. I purchased this fabric from one of the shops on Goldhawk Road for £4.99 per metre.  As per usual I cut a medium  and sewed this straight out of the envelope. I don't bother with the boob pocket. For me it disturbs the simplicity of the overall garment.  I really don't have too much to say about this version that I haven't covered before. Except that I like it so much I am thinking about making a shorter version (similar to this iteration  here ) out of the same fabric. This is so that I can wear it tucked in with skirts which would...

A Girl Just Can't Have Enough!

Pattern Review: Kwik Sew 3844 I literally cannot get enough of this tank top pattern. At the time of writing this blog post all the reviews for this on pattern review are mine! I finished this tank around a month ago, but haven't had a chance to take some snaps. As you can see, I decided to change this version up a little. I tried this pattern out with a woven rather than a stretch fabric that the pattern calls for and it does mean that this is a tad snug around the bust. I also made this a V-neck style in the front as I felt that it sat too high on my neckline without the natural drape of jersey.  In addition I had to cut a fair bit off the bottom of this tank as the woven fabric didn't stretch across my hips. I really don't know how I didn't have the foresight to think of this when I was cutting it out. I pretty much always have to grade out a size or two to allow for my hips. It was a definite moment where I kicked myself for being such a dummy. Ho...

Simple Tank #2

Pattern Review: Kwik Sew 3844  Another pattern that I had already reviewed, but there are two things about this top that excite me... 1. This fabric was £1 from the bargain bin at Simply Fabrics 2. That my finishing techniques/making the effort to to do them has really improved. For those of you that are not familiar with this pattern this is  Kwik Sew 3844 , reviewed not long ago  here .  In terms of fit, I did nothing except sew this straight out of the envelope, cutting a size medium. As I am using a soft lightweight jersey, the drape is a tad more feminine so I didn't even pinch in the edges. I spotted this fabric in the bargain bin on a Simply Fabrics haul before the summer. I really appreciate a fabric where the pattern is on the bias. It's such a win for me. Although it's not hard to refold your fabric on a 45 degree angle, it really swallows up fabric and spits it back out in unusable pieces which makes me sad.  ...

First Kwik Sew Pattern!

Image
Pattern Review - Kwik Sew 3844 I have seen a number of lovely tank tops of late and it quickly made me realise that I have a hole in my wardrobe/pattern collection. Although I have sewed  a simple top before  I wanted something more casual. That said, the first thing that I sewed this pattern up in is black lace - not that casual at all.  I had seen this Kwik Sew pattern a couple of times and been a bit stubborn about buying it. I am going to admit my prejudice here. I have previously avoided Kwik Sew patterns like the plague, as I couldn't believe that these patterns are priced higher than the average easy pattern, and at the same time have such terrible models/envelope pictures! However, I  gave in and used my Sew Direct member discount to purchase it at half the price.  I think that it was worth it. It's  really the fabric that steals the show here. This fabric was purchased to make a going out dress (currently on my sewin...
