Mustard Chiffon Dress

Pattern Review: Simplicity 1872 & Butterick 5744 I have finally got my sewjo back! It was the beginning of January when I posted my last garment. I started this dress back in 2018, but have only just finished it.  This dress is a frankenpattern of  the bodice of Simplicity 1872 and the skirt from Butterick 5744, both are patterns that I have made previously. I wanted a simple silhouette and dress for this lovely floral printed chiffon.  I initially decided to wear this dress with no elastic in the waist but it felt way too sack like for me, so I decided to pop in some elastic and it worked really well. A good amount of waist definition and yet the skirt is still floaty.  The chiffon fabric was a gift from Alex during her first visit to New York around three years ago, and not long after we met! It was pretty difficult to work with as it frayed like crazy but was worth it! I overlocked all of the edges and underlined it with a mustard orange lin...

Pattern Review: Simplicity 1872 My mum had a retirement party this weekend and of course I had to make a dress to celebrate. I had been wanting to try out the dress from Simplicity 1872 for years and finally decided to take the plunge. I have made this pattern as a peplum top  before, but it was so old that it went to the charity shop earlier this year, so it's nice to have another iteration of the pattern in my wardrobe. Ok,so let's talk fabric. I picked this up at the textile district around the Sacre Couer on my holiday to Paris with my mum last September. It cost €10 for 3 metres which is a bargain. I am pretty sure that it is some kind of polyester chiffon. I underlined the dress with stretch lining from Simply Fabrics in Brixton priced at £1 per metre.  I know that a couple of people have mentioned that there is a huge amount of ease in this pattern. It is true and I took out approximately 2" in the bodice and cut a larger armhole to compensate. T...

Pattern Review - Simplicity 1872

Pattern Review - Simplicity 1872 I am always whining that I need some more nice tops to wear out at the weekend, so when I was in Simply Fabrics a couple of weeks a ago I picked up this satin for £3 per metre - Bargain! I used Simplicity 1872 This is me trying to get the last of the sun before winter, so no apologies for the sunfilled photo! I am bad for 2 things - 1. Cutting a 14 on a bodice when I always have to take it in! 2. Not doing a FBA. So when I list the necessary adjustments that I had to make (taking 1.5 inches on each side and being miffed that the skirt section falls shorter than I would like) it's no one's fault but my own.... I love this fabric, it is really soft and has a lovely drape. However this did mean that it was pretty 'live' so I took my time when working with this project. I also added a modesty stitch at the bust (and it still sits pretty low!) - reading other pattern reviews, many people have to do this with many of the...
