Pattern Review: New Look 6106

Despite not being busy on the blog things have been busy. I purchased an overlocker and went on a one day course to get to get to grips on it. After feeling more confident with using it, I decided to try it out on a linen skirt. All of the inside seams are underlined and overlocked as I wanted a heavy drape on the skirt. 


So I must confess that this entire skirt was stolen. I had spied this linen print in my my mum's sewing room when I was back home at the end of June. I sneakily packed it into my suitcase along with this New Look skirt pattern which I also stole! 


Believe it or not this is the first time I have made skirt with pockets. I was really unsure about inserting them at first, but then decided to go with it. Too be honest with the busyness of the print you don't really notice them. I cut a size 16 and the only alteration I made was to take an inch of the top of the waistband as it was a bit thick for my liking. 


I was hesitant about the length of the skirt (sometimes I am not sure that I can pull off midi skirts) but I actually really like it. It is super comfortable and easy to wear and I feel that the skirt allows the fabric to be the star of the show. Although stolen, after confessing my theft to my mum she shared that this was purchased at Simply Fabrics in Brixton for around £5-£6 per metre.


This is a simple skirt pattern that is easy to make and the pockets are a fun detail!

The skirt is a great addition to my Summer wardrobe. I am working on a few summer tops before I start my Autumn Winter sewing.

Pattern Review: SonofaCrossStitch - Pride Tattoo PDF Pattern I am back with some instant gratification cross stitch. This simple pattern is from SonofaCrossStitch  and is the PDF Pride pattern .  This is a really simple pattern that I bought as a stash buster. I had some 16 count aida purchased during a clearance sale and I used up some of my leftover threads from previous projects. The pattern does have suggested fabric and thread suggestions, should you wish to follow them. It is also available as a kit, which would make nice present.  I have tried various finishing methods for my cross stitch, and decided on trying the felt backing method for a hoop, found in my Cross Stitcher Magazine. Update and New Patterns

  New Look Patterns!   I have been a bit absent of late. This is partly because I have been away with work, but mostly because I took a sad trip to Wadderville.   But anyway, at least I have some new patterns (thanks to the New Look sale which meant these were all £2.95 each!) to soothe my wadder woes...     New Look 6122     I would make this pattern as a cute halter top - not a dress. I would like to maybe make view A as a cute top too.     New Look Pattern 6122       Who doesn't love a fun maxi dress - I think that the shorter version is nice too, but I would have to make sure that it doesn't bunch too much at the tummy, especially as this pattern is drafted for a knit rather than a woven.     New Look 6782   Nothing very exciting here - just some standard wardrobe building.     New Look 6123     I have seen lovely reviews of this dress and think that it would be particularly nice in a stretch woollen.   Ne

February Garment of the Month

Pattern Review: Vogue 1387 I have to admit that my sewing mojo has been so low I wasn't sure February's garment was going to happen. Quite a few fellow sewers have mentioned that they have not been as productive as hoped during February, so maybe there has been something in the air? That said, I pulled it out of the bag to finish my muslin for this  Vogue 1387 Rebecca Taylor pattern. I initially fell in love with the pleats in the shoulders and the sleeve bands. Aren't they fab little details?? However there have been mixed reviews on Pattern Review, so although the line drawings looked simple enough I knew that it would be wise to make a muslin. I cut a straight size 14 and I think the fit is not bad at all. As you can see in the photo below there is a bit of excess in the sleeve, something that can be easily remedied for next time.  I did make two alterations. I lengthened the skirt by 2", without this it would have been ridiculously short on me
